Dr Gregory Celine is a Specialist Paediatric Dentist who is currently employed full time in the Perth Children’s Hospital Dental Department as the Senior Registrar. He has a special interest in the treatment of medically compromised children, as well as being active in dental research. He obtained his undergraduate dental qualification from Griffith University and completed his specialist training at the University of Western Australia while playing an active role as a registrar at the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and Perth Children’s Hospital.

Hypo-mineralised Molars: The How, What, When and Why?

Dive deep into understanding Hypo-mineralised molars in children and adolescences.

Areas covered during this session will include:

  1. What are the most common developmental dental defects? Understand the terminology.

  2. What does the latest research tell us about the aetiology of hypo-mineralisation? And how common is it?

  3. What are the clinical signs are we looking for? What are we looking for in an 18 month old child? How about a 3 year old? And what about in a 7 year old?

Specialist Paedodontist

Mary graduated as a Dentist from the University of Adelaide. After working in general practice in Adelaide she moved to Sydney to specialise in paediatric dentistry. Enamel hypo-mineralisation was the topic of her thesis for the Diploma of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric). Mary was the fellow in Paediatric Dentistry at the Children's Hospital at Westmead after completing her studies. She subsequently worked in private practice in Queensland before moving back to Adelaide where she currently works in private practice.

Parents are passionate about kids ortho and the desire to get started seems to be getting younger and younger. In this session Dr Paul Dever will unpack and demystify interceptive and early orthodontics.

Specialist Orthodontist

Dr Paul Dever is an experienced and well-regarded Orthodontist. He's passionate about sharing his knowledge and helping impact the lives of even more patients, many of whom are being led astray with DIY aligners.

Dr Paul received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland in 2001 with majors in the fields of Biomedical Science and Developmental Biology.

He was then accepted into the Bachelor of Dentistry degree (University of Sydney) which he graduated from with honours in 2005, in addition to the Edmond Charles Gates Memorial Prize for Proficiency in Orthodontics.

In 2010, Dr Paul and his young family relocated to Melbourne so that Paul could commence a training position in the post-graduate orthodontic programme at the University of Melbourne.

Paul achieved his Membership from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (MRACDS Ortho) and Membership from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (MOrth RCS Edin) in addition to his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry degree in Orthodontics (DCD Ortho), University of Melbourne in 2012.

Managing trauma and the Immature Pulp in the Permanent Dentition

Injury of the immature pulp in the permanent dentition can be a distressing event for both the patient and the clinician.

Having confidence to undertake the necessary diagnostic, operative and follow-up procedures can lessen this stress and achieve optimal outcomes from what can otherwise be a poor result for all.

The aim of this lecture is to review best practice for preservation and management of the immature pulp, highlighting key areas of clinical management to aid optimal treatment outcomes for the adolescent patient.

Dr Michael Malandris is a paediatric dentist in Adelaide, South Australia. He has a full time, well established private practice in Plympton.

Michael has been heavily involved in conferences, continuing professional development courses and lecturing at the University of Adelaide for many years.

Dr Malandris was previously a senior consultant and postgraduate supervisor at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital for over 12 years, coordinator of the undergraduate programme of Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Adelaide for 7 years and was Conference Chair of the Trans-Tasman Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry Biennial Conference in 2015.

Damian is a holistic dentist with a focused interest in snoring, sleep disorders, teeth grinding, TMJ disorders and airway focused orthodontics. In his dentistry, Damian is passionate about looking “beyond the mouth” and treating the body as a whole.

He believes dentists play an important role in being able to recognise airway/breathing issues, sleeping problems, and craniofacial pain (such as headaches, neck pain, and TMJ disorders). This led him to undergo extensive postgraduate training with world renowned specialists in the field of sleep medicine and TMJ disorders, and achieving his Post Graduate Diploma in Dental Sleep Medicine with the University of Western Australia.

Damian also previously worked in Darwin’s first official TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre, where he exclusively treated patients for snoring, sleep apnoea, teeth grinding and TMD.

Damian has setup his own specialised TMD and Sleep clinics: Melbourne Dental Sleep Clinic. Damian understands the value in working with skilled allied health practitioners outside of dentistry. He currently consults with the sleep respiratory physician team at Lung And Sleep Victoria, and the specialised TMJ physiotherapy team at the Melbourne TMJ & Facial Pain Centre.

He has presented lectures and held seminars to medical and dental professionals to spread the knowledge that dentists can help one’s health and quality of life “beyond the mouth.”

Carla graduated from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, with a Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Oral Health) in 2000. Carla lectured for 7 years for Smile Dental's "Develop the Hygienist, Develop the Practice" workshop.

She currently teaches Orofacial Myology practice to dental and speech professionals from all over Australia with The Australian academy of Orofacial Myology.

Carla has been in private Orofacial Myology practice since 2011 and is director of The Smiley Face Clinic, a private practice where she teaches correct breathing and oral and facial muscle habits to children and adults.

She is also the founder and director of the well known Thumb-sucking Clinic and is sought after by parents from all over Australia for her work with children in this area.

Carla works closely with dentists, orthodontists, speech pathologists and occupational therapists to achieve the best results for her patients.Carla is in demand as a speaker locally and internationally regarding her work in child facial development.

Recently Carla's research paper entitled "Influence of non-Orthodontic Intervention on Digit Sucking and Consequent anterior open bite - a preliminary study", was published in 2015 by the International Dental Journal, the official journal of the FDI World Dental Federation. This is the first study to ever suggest a relationship between NOI - non-orthodontic intervention and the closure of anterior open bite suggesting for the first time an association between NOI and cessation of the digit sucking habit.

Dr Ninna Yuson is a Paediatric Specialist who has been mastering the art of managing kids in dentistry for over 20 years.

In this session she will discuss...

3.What types of behaviour guidance tools do we have in our arsenal (non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic)?

Ninna Estrella Yuson has been a staff specialist at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide since 2012.

She also works part-time in private practice at Paediatric Dental Care and helps teach at the University of Adelaide.

She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry.

She finished her Master of Science in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan (USA) in 2007.

Ninna is the current federal councillor for the ANZSPD SANT Branch. Although she lives in Adelaide, she is still very involved abroad, serving in councils and committees in the AAPD (US) and IAPD.
